Spreading the Word about Linked Data in Education

04/01/2013

Throughout the last months, Stefan has given a series of invited talks and lectures on LinkedUp and related research in the area of Web data – in particular Linked Data – in education. Most recently, during last week’s Green Hackathon (see also the Green Hackathon 2012 Brochure), Stefan introduced also LinkedUp data curation activities together with a range of open datasets and their APIs (see the slides) to a wide audience of academics and practitioners and worked with them on building compelling applications which exploit the showcased data.

Already in September and October, the LinkedUp goals and the general challenges and opportunities of Linked Data for Web-based education were presented during keynotes at the 6th tele-TASK Symposium 2012, (Hasso Plattner Institute, Potsdam, Germany, see slides and podcast) and at the 2nd Workshop on Recommender Systems for Technology Enhanced Learning (RecSysTEL 2012), collocated with EC-TEL 2012, Saarbrücken, Germany). Already earlier this year, Stefan also discussed similar topics as panelist during a panel on “The Web and Education” at the World Wide Web Conference 2012 – WWW2012 (Lyon, France).
